Conclusion of a scientific workshop on the role of universities in combating hate speech and societal violence

 

Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Computer Science and Information Technology, Professor Dr. Salah Awad Salman, the College of Computer Science and Information Technology, in collaboration with the Human Rights Commission - Anbar Governorate Office, concluded the electronic scientific workshop titled: "The Role of Universities in Combating Hate Speech and Societal Violence" on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.

The workshop, presented by Mr. Thakir Mardhi from the Human Rights Commission and managed by the instructor M.M. Walaa Ahmed Rashid, with active participation from faculty members, students, and several individuals interested in academic and community affairs. The workshop addressed the roles that universities can play in promoting a culture of peaceful coexistence and combating hate speech. The most prominent recommendations concluded by the workshop were: promoting the values of tolerance in university activities by integrating the values of tolerance and coexistence into educational programs and student activities. Using social media consciously: by spreading positive messages and opposing hate speech and extremism. Collaboration between university administrations and students: to promote a positive and safe university environment free from manifestations of hatred and societal violence.

This workshop comes as part of a series of initiatives by the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology aimed at enhancing the role of universities in achieving societal peace and instilling the values of constructive dialogue and rejecting violence and hatred.
