An electronic scientific workshop (From Decision Making to Decision Making) on the occasion of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Week

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Salah Awad Salman, Dean of the College of Computer Science and Information Technology, the Women's Affairs Unit organized an online lecture titled "From Decision-Making to Decision-Making" on Tuesday, November 27, 2024, presented by the esteemed trainer Dr. Sana'a Al-Husseini Al-Sabaiba from the sisterly country of Jordan.

The lecture addressed the difference between decision-making and decision-making as a process, as well as decision-making methods, the importance of planning, and sharing others' experiences before making a decision. An important point raised was that there are several aspects that can be traps for those trying to make a decision in their lives.

The lecture addressed the concept of decision-making as the process of choosing the best alternative to solve a specific problem, and distinguished between decision-making and decision crafting as a comprehensive process that includes all the necessary steps to reach an effective decision. The workshop objectives were reviewed, which included enhancing critical thinking and decision-making strategies, as well as focusing on individual responsibility and the impact of decisions on personal and professional life.

Several traps that can affect the decision-making process were also discussed, such as the lure trap and the herd trap, along with strategies to avoid these traps.

The decision-making mechanism was explained, which includes assessing the situation, generating alternatives, comparing alternatives, and weighing the best option, with a focus on the importance of implementation and follow-up to evaluate the effectiveness of decisions.

The main topics of the lecture were

- *Definition of decision-making and decision crafting*: where the difference between the two was clarified and the importance of understanding each was emphasized.

- *Decision traps*: Many psychological and social traps that can negatively affect the decision-making process were reviewed, such as the bait-and-switch trap and the herd trap.

- *Decision-making mechanism*: It included evaluating the situation, generating alternatives, and weighing the available options.

The characteristics of an effective decision emphasized the importance of focusing on the right solutions rather than the acceptable ones, and understanding that the effectiveness of a decision depends on the context.

The lecture was interspersed with interventions from the attendees, who shared their life experiences.

At the end of the lecture, the head of the Women's Affairs Unit, who had chaired the session, expressed her gratitude to the lecturer. It was agreed that the important recommendations from this session would be printed as a scientific and cultural pamphlet to be distributed throughout the university for our dear students, due to its significance in informing and educating them on decision-making strategies that determine the course of their lives.
